The Paralympic flame will tour Tokyo in the climax of the Paralympic Torch Relay from 21 August until 24 August, the day of the Opening Ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games
The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) announced details of the Paralympic Torch Relay route for each of the four prefectures hosting Paralympic events: Shizuoka, Chiba, Saitama and Tokyo. The Relay will be held from 17 to 24 August 2021; the maps and details of each segment are available on Tokyo 2020 official website.
Flames from all of Japan’s 47 prefectures and the flame that will be lit in Stoke Mandeville, UK, the birthplace of the Paralympic Movement, will be brought together to create a single Paralympic flame at a Flame Gathering event in Tokyo on 20 August.
The Paralympic flame will then tour the capital in the climax of the Paralympic Torch Relay from 21 August until 24 August, the day of the Opening Ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
Representatives of each prefecture will hold aloft their own torch with its own flame during the Flame Gathering Event; some will participate as torchbearers during the subsequent Tokyo segment of the Relay.
The venue for the Flame Gathering Event and the ceremony content are still under consideration; details will be announced as soon as they are decided. Participants in the Flame Gathering Event and the Paralympic Torch Relay may differ. The individual prefectures may decide to release details of their representatives in due course.Route details of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Torch Relay.
