Parasport Contributes to Vietnam's Success at ASEAN Para Games

Vietnam’s Paralympic sport excellence recognized by the ASEAN Para Sports Federation

HANOI, Vietnam--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Vietnamese team ranked fourth in the medal tally at the 8th ASEAN

Para Games in Singapore, winning 48 gold, 58 silver and 50 bronze medals.

The ASEAN Para Games 2015, held from the 3rd to 9th December, hosted 3000 para-athletes and officials from the 10

ASEAN countries. The Vietnam team’s attendance at the Games was facilitated by support provided by


The Vietnamese team consisted of 130 para-athletes who competed in 9 out of the 15 events organized, including

athletics, swimming, weight-lifting, badminton, chess, table tennis, football, boccia, and rowing. Vietnam broke 16

records at the Games.

Vu The Phiet, General Secretary of Vietnam Paralympic Association, was also appointed Vice-President of ASEAN

Para Sports Federation for 2016-2019.

Mr. Vu The Phiet, General Secretary of Vietnam Paralympic Association, said:

2015 has been a great year for Vietnamese Paralympic sport, with our swimming, athletics and powerlifting teams competing at an international level and also qualifying for the Rio Games in 2016. We would like to thank PARASPORT Foundation for promoting the work of the Vietnam Paralympic Association and in assisting our athletes’ preparation for the Rio Paralympic Games.
